Meal Planning Tips

Meal Planning Tips

Here’s an idea…

you can integrate Greenspot into your Family meal planning! Are you all set to save some time, feed your household much healthier meals and conserve some cash along the way? Here are just a few of the benefits of and best meal planning tips we’ve put together for you. Let’s take a look at them in a little bit more detail.

Meal Planning is a Huge Money Saver

It’s pretty standard… By preparing more meals in the house you will keep more dollars in your pocket. You will save on your monthly grocery bill, since you will be making a list of whatever you need for the week and won’t wind up buying extras that simply go to waste.

Have you ever thrown away food because you simply hadn’t planned ahead? And… when you compare our prices on healthy food to other restaurants you’ll find you’re really conserving cash to consume much healthier.

Eat Healthier

Planning your family meals will minimize your journeys to those unhealthy fast food restaurants and alternatively hopefully increase them to your favorite Healthy fast food restaurant.  Food you prepare at home and the food we supply you from our fresh salad kitchen here at GreenSpot tends to be much healthier than hamburgers with fries, fried chicken or pizza. When you plan your meals include some lean protein like chicken breast, and vegetables. Your whole household will benefit from the much healthier meals.  Try adding some grilled steak to this tasty Ensanada salad at our 4S ranch location!

Conserve Time

How much time are you spending now going to the grocery store a few times a week.

A lot of people run to grocery shop a minimum of 3 times a week to buy stuff to make for dinner. Planning your meals out for a week at a time and after that creating a grocery list with everything you need to prepare those meals will cut your journeys to the store down to hopefully one a week. This alone will save you a couple of hours every week. Plus you won’t end up standing in front of your fridge trying to come up with something you can wip up with what you have on hand.

Also….

When you get one or more of those meals from us can you imagine all that EXTRA time you’ll get back!?!

Less Stress

You know the routine. It’s 6 pm, everybody in the house is starving and you have no idea what’s for supper. Trying to create something to cook from what you have in the kitchen while your kids are tired, starving and shouting isn’t one of the most enjoyable family activities. You will be a lot more relaxed about dinner, when you know exactly what you are going to prepare and know you have everything you need

ahead of time .

And/Or… you know ahead of time that it’s –

Wrap It Up Wednesday

and what you truly want is this killer BLT chicken ceasar we can make for you!

Quality Time Together

Finally, Meal Planning encourages everyone to collect around the dinner table every day. Yours or ours. Who could resist the tasty smells coming out of the kitchen? Dinnertime has always been a great time for families to gather and share news and experiences of the day. Parents and kids can pay each other undistracted attention.

Cook some dinner, set the table and well… do not forget to turn off the screens. Make supper a daily household custom again.

With dine in choices becoming available once again we ‘d like to see you and your family enjoying yourselves at one of our fine establishments.

Give meal planning a shot. You and your family will see the advantages within less than a week.

Remember… if you Don’t have the time or patience to plan your family meals?

Let us do it for you!

Make Greenspot a part of your future meal planning.

Top 5 Heart Healthy Salad Ingredients

Heart Healthy Salad

February is the month we all associate with the heart. With Valentines coming up, hearts are EVERYWHERE! So here at Greenspot we thought we ‘d offer you our top 5 salad ingredients to keep your heart healthy. These standard ingredients provide you a simple, scrumptious method to get your four servings of vegetables daily.

One of the Greenspot Salad fan favorite’s is the classic Cobb. with all the fresh ingredients you’ll get a salad loaded with crispy romaine, hard boiled egg, bacon, carrot and avocado, plus you’ll get all the top quality ingredients to make your salad healthy and filling.

Yup, it’s that simple. Here’s some tips for developing limitless salad combinations with ingredients that are delicious and heart healthy– with each component chock filled with the healthy nutrients noted in the USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference.

The Fundamentals of Producing a Super-Healthy Salad:

We start with locally sourced, seasonal produce and after that add protein and a healthy dressing and you’re good to go.

Consume a big salad every day to enhance your metabolic health, energy and overall wellness!

1. Greenspot Greens
The darker or redder, the better– so think romaine and leaf lettuces like butter lettuce (vitamin C, folic acid, potassium). Leafy greens — Jazz things up with spring mix, baby spinach and kale (beta-carotene, anti-oxidants).

Greenspot suggestion: Load up on our spring mix, spinach or kale as your salad or bowl base to enjoy all the added benefits of those leafy greens!

2. Create Some Color
(a beautiful salad is a tasty salad!)… Tomatoes (fiber, vitamins A, C and K, potassium, manganese). Red, orange, yellow or green peppers (vitamins C, B1, B2 and B6, folate).

Red onion (fiber, phytochemicals). Pomegranate seeds (vitamins A, C and E, fiber, potassium, calcium, anti-oxidants). Avocado slices (over 20 minerals and vitamins, heart-healthy fat). Red, purple or yellow beets (folate).

Greenspot tip: Add as many vegetables onto your Greenspot Salad or Bowl  — it’s only .50 cents extra after your first 6 salad bar ingredients!

3. Go Crunchy … Pea pods (vitamins A and C, iron), Cucumber (vitamin C). Purple cabbage (vitamins A and C, iron). Broccoli florets (vitamin C). Alfalfa sprouts (anti-oxidants).

4. Punch Up the Protein
Black beans, garbanzo beans or lentils (fiber). Chicken or lean beef. Salmon or water-packed tuna (omega-3 fats). Hard-boiled eggs. Low-fat feta cheese, blue cheese, goat cheese, parmesan or mozzarella (calcium, vitamin D). Tofu (heart-healthy fat, potassium).

Greenspot pointer: Full-fat cheeses are high in saturated fat. Trying combining small amounts of your favorite cheese with other proteins.

5. Dressing it up light
Lime juice (vitamin C, potassium) Lemon juice (vitamin C, folate). Red red wine or balsamic vinegar. Olive oil (heart-healthy fat).

Greenspot suggestion: Use more vinegar and citrus, and less oil. Still in the mood to indulge in our creamier dressings? Always ask for your dressing on the side!

If you’re not eating salad really often, try starting possibly with one or two salads a week. Not vibing with all the lettuce and veggies?  Ease into healthier eating with one of our hearty Greenspot grain bowls like our Harvest Chicken Bowl!

After you wrap salads into your diet regularly you’ll be amazed at how you’ll start to feel great about what you’re eating– and how creative you can get. Then, slowly build up to one each day, plus full-meal salads once or twice a week.

You’ll quickly have more energy and feel better than ever.

Fresh Salad For Every Resolution

Fresh Salad

Congratulations, you made it through the holidays and now it’s time to greet 2022 with open arms! While some of us are still processing the last two years, and maybe carrying a few extra pounds – we know what the New Year brings; A fresh start, maybe a new job, possibly a relocation to a new city, but the most common goal for the New Year, is getting back into the ol’ workout and eating healthy routine. Ugh. But guess what? Getting back into shape and eating healthy can be made into a much more enjoyable goal with the right tools. Greenspot takes pride in being the restaurant for every resolution, and regardless if you are going vegan, vegetarian, trying paleo, keto, or the Wholethirty for the first time, we got you covered!

Here are 4 tips to staying on top of your fitness and nutrition goals for the new year:

1. Hire a Personal Trainer

Did you know that people who hire a personal trainer are 60% more likely to meet their fitness goals? The average cost of a trainer is $75 a session – but if you meet with a trainer once a week, they will give you a workout plan + usually help with nutrition, and be the extra push to help you reach your goals.

Yes, $300 sounds like a lot, and in the grand scheme of things it is a higher ticket cost, but how often have you checked your credit card bill and seen your grand total of expenses on going out to the bars or shopping online? Look at the $300 as an investment in yourself –  and YOUR health and livelihood is worth every penny.

2. Learn How to Count Your Macros

Count macros? What even are macros? Macros is short for macronutrients. Macronutrients are three categories of nutrients you eat the most of and provide you with the most energy: Proteins, Fats, and Carbohydrates. When you learn how much protein, fats and carbs are in the foods that you are eating, it’s an eye opening experience to learn of what exactly is in your food and a phenomenal way to learn about portion size.

Through counting your macros you can enjoy flexible dieting and it’s a much better way to meet and sustain your weight goals. You can learn more about countring your macros here > https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/how-to-count-macros#step-by-step

3. Find a Diet that Works Best for You

Vegetarian Diet: Eat all the fruits and veggies, while still enjoying the perks of dairy. One of our favorite vegetarian dishes that we serve at Greenspot is our Greek Salad: Crispy romaine, fresh tomato, kalamata olives, cucumber, onion, feta cheese, topped with Greek vinaigrette.Order our Greek Salad here > https://the-greenspot-salad-company-mv.square.site/product/greek/162?cs=true&cst=customVegan Diet: Strictly all the fruits and veggies, we got that!

Check out our Rainbow Tofu Bowl made with Quinoa, spring mix, carrots, corn, red cabbage, avocado, tofu and lemon basil vinaigrette.

Paleo: Paleo-friendly foods include meat, fish, eggs, seeds, nuts, fruits and veggies, along with healthy fats and oils.

Enjoy our paleo-friendly Harvest Chicken Bowl that is loaded with kale, quinoa, sweet potatoes, apple, cranberries, walnut and our homemade maple dijon vinaigrette.

Order our Paleo Bowl > here <

Keto:  A keto diet is a very low-carb, high fat diet. With this diet of choice, we recommend starting with our Cobb Salad as the base and then taking advantage of any modifications from there. Our Cobb salad is stacked high with hard boiled eggs, bacon, avocado, carrots and tomato.

WholeThirty: The WholeThirty encourages followers to cut out alcohol, sugar, grains, legumes, dairy and additives from their diet for 30 days. With this diet, our salad bar is your oyster as we have every option for modifications and customization to meet your needs. Build your custom salad by clicking > here <

4. Give Yourself Grace

Reaching your fitness and nutrition goals is all about the journey, not the race. The key is consistency and you cannot rely on motivation alone. You must be dedicated and disciplined. But it’s also super important to give yourself grace. Not every day is going to be perfect, it does not have to be an all or nothing mentality. Didn’t make it to the gym today? Try for a 20 minute workout or a brisk walk. Didn’t get the chance to meal prep for the week? Take advantage of ordering Greenspot online and eating a healthier option for “takeout.”  Celebrate the small wins.

Whatever your New Year’s resolution is, we’d love to have you over to one of our fine establishments to enjoy some of the best, fresh healthy food in the San Diego area.

Happy New Year’s and go crush those goals! You got this 🙂

Healthy Food

Healthy Food For The Holidays

Hello and here we are in the thick of the Holiday season.  It can be challenging to resist all the amazing flavorful food during this time of year.  It’s especially hard to keep up, or start, those eating habits that do all the things for you you need.  Like lower cholesterol, immune boost, weight loss or simply feeling great because you use great food to fuel your body.

You’ve heard it before I know… salads, wraps and bowls are a great way to do all these things if you have the right ingredients.  So here’s the thing… If you feel a little guilty for splurging on the food lately, maybe think about having a farm fresh salad to compensate for the extra dessert you had the other day.

There’s also some awesome healthy things you can do with leftovers from the other day.  Do you have leftover Turkey?  Maybe use it in a caesar salad instead of chicken… have some leftover cranberry sauce?  Maybe dollop some in your next home made wrap as a flavor booster.

Check out a video of our Founder/Owner making one of our most popular salads…

Of course you’re always welcome to make it easy and come on down to one of our greenspot locations for a quick healthy pick me up salad. If you’re just not in the mood to go out though, you could consider instead having us come to you.  We’d be happy to cater your upcoming event with all the healthy food you and your guests could hope for.  I bet you’re craving an ensenada salad after that little video.

Till Next Time and here’s to healthy food in your future.
